Spiritual Gifts Prayers, Part I

This post is meant to be a useful guide for your personal and/or your church’s intercession regarding discovery and use of spiritual gifts. Consider using one request per day or week. Perhaps send these out to a team of prayer warriors and ask them to pray these regularly for your church. Over time, you will see the Lord provide results in amazing ways.

Pray that each of us at [our church] would equally value each of the 23 spiritual gifts found in Scripture [see Romans 12, 1 Corinthians 12-14, Ephesians 4, 1 Peter 3]—not elevating any over others, not desiring any over others—but embracing, developing, and using the ones we do have by the Lord’s choosing.

Pray that all of us will use our gifts and our talents and our situations in life to bring honor and glory to God and be agents that invite His kingdom come on earth.

Pray for those who have taken the spiritual gifts assessment in recent months and discovered (or rediscovered) their gifts of Healing, Miraculous Powers, Tongues, or Interpretation of Tongues. Pray for discernment, as the assessment is sometimes less “accurate” on these four since it cannot always get at the depth and breadth of what the gifts can look like and there is usually more confusion about these four gifts than the other nineteen. Pray for these folks to see God-ordained opportunities to see these gifts in practice and use them to the glory of God and for the health of the church.

Pray for all of the gifts that people at [our church] have—that each person can see and know from the Lord that all of their gifts can be used effectively and at different times, in varied circumstances. May each person seek to use what God has given them to steward well.

Pray that as we use our God-given gifts, that each of us seeks the Lord’s guidance, empowerment, discernment, and wisdom as we step into His calling and purpose for us.

Pray that each person at [our church], as he/she discovers and explores their gifts, that they find the experience life-giving—and have the sense that they are truly gifted to do something for God’s kingdom.

Pray for the diversity of passions at [our church] to be a plus and not a reason for disunity. As the Lord scatters His deep and wide love for His world, each of us will express that differently in a wide variety of settings and as involvement in many causes/issues. Pray that in situations where our spiritual gifts serve our passions--meaning that any and all gifts show up anywhere we find ourselves and are useful—we would each be faithful to what the Lord intends wherever we find ourselves.

Pray for those whose gifts are changing in a new life season (new parent, planning for retirement, move to a new location, career-change, illness, etc.). Pray that they would be open to doing something different as they seek what the Lord desires for them.

Pray for our Equipping efforts at [our church]—that the Holy Spirit would be the instigator of continued culture-change for our congregation into a more Christ-centered Body that makes space for all gifts to be expressed in love and holiness.
