Will you explain more about spiritual gifts in vocation/job vs. within the body of Christ/church?--Gifts FAQ

In facilitating and teaching the Your Unique Design Sessions to a variety of groups, I have gathered questions along the way. This and several future blog posts will capture some of those questions and my responses.

Will you explain more about spiritual gifts in vocation/job vs. within the body of Christ/church?

Spiritual gifts show up when and where you show up—in church and outside of church; in paid work and volunteer exploits; with your family and your neighbors. You are the church gathered when together and the church scattered when you are not. All settings are fair game for use of gifts.

Think of your top gift mix. What does that add to your job role? Perhaps you have the title of Leader/Manager/CEO, but your gift mix is Administration, Wisdom, Shepherding and not Leadership. That simply means that your influence—your leadership role—will take on the flavor of bringing order out of chaos (Administration), knowing the right course of action in many situations (Wisdom), and coming alongside those you manage/lead to help them be their best selves (Shepherding).

Perhaps you have the title of Teacher, and your gift mix is Mercy, Helps, Hospitality, and Intercession. You still have the training and the skills (and likely experience) to perform your teaching duties, AND your teaching will have the essence of compassion for those who are struggling (Mercy), providing practical things in the moment (Helps), making each child/teen/adult in your classroom feel welcome and accepted (Hospitality), and praying silently throughout the day for whomever comes to mind (Intercession).

You get the idea…
