Purpose and Calling: Intercede Intro
When the Apostle Paul is writing to his mentee/disciple, Timothy, giving him instructions on corporate worship, he says: I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people (1 Timothy 2:1). To the church in Thessalonica, he says: Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).
Part of our calling and purpose, as the children of God both in the church and in the world is to intercede for others…for one another…often…persistently.
There will be times when the “others” for whom you are led to pray are suffering deeply, times when the Spirit nudges you to intercede for fellow believers halfway around the globe, and times when your prayers are ones of thanksgiving, joy, and praise.
The next few blog posts will provide some examples of corporate prayers that might be used in worship or small group settings. Feel free to adapt these to fit your situation/s that that of those on your heart and mind…”for this is God’s will for you”—to pray fervently for others.
