Our peace with one another begins with our individual and collective peace with God. The Lord is our peace and He also gives us rest and peace. This peace transcends that of the world as well as our circumstances. It has its roots in true reconciliation with God in Christ, restoring God’s intended harmony with us, each other, and the world. We are safe, secure, no longer striving and fighting. It is a life-giving shalom.

 

Out of that sense of settled-ness, we are called to live at peace with others. Psalm 133:1--How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!

 

Take time now to pray through Philippians 4:4-9, rejoicing in the Lord’s nearness and asking the Lord to calm your anxiety with His peace, guarding your heart and your mind:

4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

            8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. 9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.
