Calling and Purpose 28—Political Leadership
This particular subject is fraught with challenges due to people’s, and sometimes especially Christians’, stances on politics. The point of this blog entry is to emphasize that God’s people are called to be everywhere, including in the political arena. We may not all agree on particular political positions, but each Jesus-follower who influences policy serves a purpose in his/her generation:
Jimmy Carter
• Peanut farmer.
• President of the United States.
• Ambassador for peace.
• Sunday School Teacher.
• Habitat for Humanity volunteer.
George H.W. Bush
• Military service.
• Ambassador.
• Leader.
• President of the United States.
• Statesman.
Each of the above examples served as President of the United States and each made no secret of his faith in Jesus. Their early journeys were dramatically different, and each role they played, each job they held was important to their purpose—their purpose in that moment and their purpose preparing for the next thing.
Your purpose can change over time. Your gifts can too. Knowing your gifts, calling, and purpose involves asking God how He wishes to use you in this moment, in this season.
What about the above examples do you most resonate with? Why?
Is this perhaps a clue as to your own calling and purpose? Describe:
Seek out a coach, mentor, trusted advisor to help you discern next steps.
